The Indian Premier League 2021 was one of the most-awaited events of the year. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, cricketers from different corners of the world united to keep fans engaged with thrilling face-offs. They were constantly kept in a bio-bubble and were tested for COVID-19 on regular basis. Now, the virus has hit IPL 2021 hard as multiple players have contracted COVID-19 despite being in a bubble.
Due to rising COVID-19 cases, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the ongoing season of IPL. Vice-President of BCCI Rajeev Shukla issued a statement today. In the statement, he said, "IPL has just been suspended, we will see whether we can reschedule it, it is not cancelled. It is just suspended for now."

Recently, Chennai Super Kings bowling coach Laxmipathy Balaji was tested positive. Two Kolkata Knight Riders cricketers Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier also contracted the virus. Amit Mishra of Delhi Capitals and Wriddhiman Saha of Sunrisers Hyderabad are also down with COVID-19.
IPL 2021 started on April 9 and was scheduled to conclude on May 30.
