On December 16, 2020, PeepingMoon.com had exclusively informed its readers that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is planning to revive his film Heera Mandi for Netflix. The film was reportedly being planned for the last 13 years and names like Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Rani Mukerji and others were associated with it. While the cast of Heera Mandi is yet to be announced, an entertainment portal's report suggests that Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi have been locked to play important roles. A source informed that Madhuri Dixit has been approached for a mujra.
"Sanjay Leela Bhansali has almost locked the cast of his magnum opus series Heera Mandi that he's planning for Netflix. It's being mounted on a grand scale, on a lavish budget and Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi have already been locked to play important characters. But apart from them, SLB wanted to get Madhuri for a beautiful mujra that he's planning. That will be one of the biggest highlights in the film," the source told.

The source added that Madhuri has shown her interest in the mujra and is in advanced talks with Sanjay. "Madhuri has also shown her interest in the song. Bhansali feels nobody else can bring the grace and dignity to the dance form that Madhuri can. They are in advanced talks. It will be a eight to ten-day elaborate schedule and Madhuri has been offered a handsome sum to give a nod," the source added.
Madhuri starred as Chandramukhi in Sanjay's Devdas with Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
