Paresh Rawal, Shilpa Shetty, Meezaan Jaaferi and Pranitha Subhash starrer Hungama 2 is all set to release on OTT. As per our exclusive news the film will have a direct-to-web release on Disney+Hotstar. The film has been directed by Priyadarshan and is a sequel to his 2003 hit Hungama. It also stars Rajpal Yadav, Johny Lever and Shakti Kapoor. Now, producer Ratan Jain has confirmed the news while speaking to a leading daily.
Confirming about the OTT release, Jain said, “Yes. How long could I have waited? The movie was ready about 6-8 months back. We would have released it this month in the theatres, if things had been better. But with the present scenario, I don't think the cinema halls would open before July or August at least.”
When asked about the money he could have made if the film had a theatrical release, Jain said, “You never know how much I would have made in theatres. Sales at ticket windows are always dicey, I mean, they were dicey even before COVID struck. But one thing is for sure, I have not been shortchanged.”
He also spoke about churning content for OTT now and said, “Of course, my first bent would be towards theatres. But I can juggle both. Well, I don't know about others but I think I don't need a star when I make a film for a streaming platform. Secondly, I don't need to insert songs for just the heck of it. Movies-in-theatres is a different ball game altogether.”
