I had become too ambitious, didn’t see myself ever being a regular housewife: Neena Gupta reveals the reason behind failed first marriage

Neena Gupta's second innings in Bollywood has been power-packed. From edgy roles to tell-all interviews, the veteran actress has shown to millennials that she is an incredibly strong woman. On June 14, Neena finally launched her much-anticipated autobiography, Sach Kahun Toh. In the autobiography, the actress has candidly spoken about her personal life. Including a failed marriage.

In Sach Kahun Toh, Neena revealed that she was married to a person named Amlan Kusum Ghose. She wrote, "Amlan and I would meet in secret on campus, his hostel or near my house. His parents lived in another city but his grandfather lived in my lane so he would spend festivals and holidays in WEA." However, her parents got to know about their relationship through a friend. Later, in order to go to Kashmir with Amlan, she tied the knot with him.

Calling herself ambitious, Neena said, "Amlan viewed things differently. Given the times and our upbringing, I think he had always assumed that I would eventually settle down and focus on our family. But I had become a bit too ambitious and didn’t see myself ever being a regular housewife. I wanted more from life, and the more theatre I did, the clearer my path became. During the short time, Amlan and I were married, we never quarrelled much. Not about our daily lives, the way our house was run or about my studies and career. We were both very, very young when we dove into marriage, but to this day, I don’t have a harsh thing to say about him."

They parted ways within 1 year of marriage. Now, Neena is married to Vivek Mehra for almost 13 years.
