Bollywood lost another precious gem this morning. National Award-winning actress Surekha Sikri breathed her last at the age of 75 in Mumbai today. The veteran actress was keeping unwell for quite some time now. The three-time National Award winner passed away due to cardiac arrest.
The actress's manager confirmed the unfortunate news to a leading daily and told, "Three-time national award-winning actress, Surekha Sikri has passed away following a cardiac arrest earlier this morning at the age of 75. She had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke. She was surrounded by family and her caregivers. The family asks for privacy at this time. Om Sai Ram."
In September last year, Surekha Sikri was rushed to a hospital after she suffered a brain stroke. She was admitted to the ICU after the stroke caused by an artery in the brain bursting and causing localized bleeding in the surrounding tissues. The actress also suffered a paralytic stroke earlier in 2018.
Surekha Sikri won National Awards for Tamas (1988), Mammo (1995) and Badhaai Ho (2018). She is also the recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1989 for her contribution to Hindi theatre. Her career spanned theatre, films and television. Her last project was Netflix's anthology, Ghost Stories.
