Comedienne Bharti Singh has come a long way and is now known for her comic timing and funny oneliners. The artist, who is known for entertaining people, has gone through a lot in life before tasting success. What not many are aware of is her other side.

On Maniesh Paul's podcast Gripping Untold Stories, Bharti recently broke down recalling her late father, facing poverty, having a near-death experience and more! 

HARASSMENT

Bharti recently opened up on her experience with being inappropriately touched in the past by a few event coordinators. Recalling the bad experiences, she said, "Someone rubbed their hand against my back. I didn't know that he teased me. They would say 'Bharti, it was an amazing show' and rub his hand on my back. The coordinators who pay us. 'You are too good, Bharti' and rub their hands on my back. I know it's not a good feeling. But he's like my uncle, he can't be bad. Maybe I'm wrong. So I thought this doesn't feel right but that uncle can't be wrong. I had no understanding, Manish. I had no clue. But now I have the will to fight for my body, my honour. I have the confidence to fight. What's the matter? What are you looking at? Go out. Now I can speak. Earlier, I had no courage."

POVERTY

Bharti also spoke about the times when they did not have food at home. She candidly also revealed how her family is still not accustomed to a lavish lifestyle. Bharti said that while her brother would work in a shop, her sister and mother worked in a factory where they sewed blankets. Her mother also cooked at other’s homes. They would even sometimes work at their house, and seeing all the huge blankets, Bharti did not want to be at home. “Ghar jaane ka mann nahi karta tha (I didn’t feel like going home). I would stay in college with my friends, and eat at the hostel. I knew once I go back, I would have to face poverty. Live in that dim light.” The Dance Deewane 3 host shared how there were days when they would not have vegetables at home. “We would make black tea and eat with parathas. Or eat roti and salt.”

NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCE 

The laughter queen also spoke about a near-death experience she had with her family and revealed that it was when she took her family members to Bali for a trip. Revealing that she makes sure to take her family for a holiday at least once a year, Bharti joked that it was also the one trip when she took everyone to their death bed. Opening up about the incident, the comedienne said, "We went on a cruise to someplace called Nusa Paneda in Bali. They dropped us there. We went looking around. We had hired the entire cruise so we thought we can leave whenever we like." She added that though her mom asked the family to leave early, she and everyone else wanted to wait longer and take pictures. "Black clouds were gathering around. My mom said she can see the black clouds and it will be more than an hour long journey by ship. So let's leave. I said, 'Mom, it's okay. Nothing happens to the ship.' We took pictures, made videos on Instagram. Later, when we went on the ship and the ship arrived in the middle of the ocean, the water was rising above it. Above the boat. Lights came on inside the boat. Two guys came along and gave us jackets. My family was scared. Their faces were pale. Some felt like puking. The people asked us to hold on to something because the storm was so violent," the comedienne  At that time, she revealed that all her family members were with her except Harsh who was in Amsterdam at the time. "I thought I should talk to my husband for the last time and say, 'Harsh, there are Rs 250 under the fridge. Don't forget.' That was our condition. Wo ek ghanta humne maut dekhi. Koi uss trip mein na thik nahi utra," she said.

FATHER'S DEMISE

Bharti broke down recalling her late father and memories associated with him.  Bharti told, "In my life, I just have my mother. I don’t have a father. When I was just two years old, he passed away. I haven’t even seen him, Maniesh. I don’t even have photos of my father in my house. I don’t allow anyone to put them up. My sister has seen my father’s love and my brother, but not me. But Maniesh, I didn’t even get love from my brother in my house, because everyone’s busy with their own work. But now, the love I get from my husband (Haarsh Limbachiyaa) has made me realise how a man is supposed to care."

BORROWING MONEY 

Bharti also revealed how she did not have enough money for her houses' down payment. Further in the conversation, Maniesh revealed he helped Bharti by giving him Rs 10 lakh for the down payment of her home. Narrating the incident, Bharti recalled asking for money, "Maniesh 10 lakh chahie (Maniesh, I need Rs 10 lakh). He said I will give you but I will need it later. I said I will pay you later. We took money from each other to build our homes." Bharti said she will never forget that moment in her life. It was after this incident that Bharti and Maniesh's friendship grew strong. Bharti now owns several properties in Mumbai and leads a lavish lifestyle.
