Though Dimple Cheema has stayed away from media, she is a role model for many young women. Dimple, who was in love with Kargil war hero late Captain Vikram Batra, dedicated her life to his memories. After his sacrifice for the country, she chose to remain unmarried. Dimple's story was beautifully told in Karan Johar-produced Shershaah. Directed by Vishnu Varadhan, the film is a tribute to Param Veer Chakra awardee Captain Batra and his life's unsung hero- Dimple. Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani played the lead roles. Captain Batra and Dimple were in a relationship for 4 years, but did you know they spent just about 40 days together? The writer of Shershaah, Sandeep Shrivastava, revealed in an interview with a news portal.
Reacting to complaints of people who felt Kiara's screen presence in Shershaah wasn't utilised properly, Sandeep told, "When I was doing my research, and I interacted with Dimple, she said that Captain Batra and she knew each other for four years but the time they spent together was just about 40 days. I think that we have captured the essence of those 40 days, which means a lot to the wonderful lady whom I have a lot of respect. It is the essence of her feelings that is coming through the way Kiara has played the character, and that’s what’s really sticking to people. So I do not think there was a need to add anything. It’s just the right amount."
He further added that Captain Batra's story can't be told without Dimple. "She is a very integral part of Captain Vikram Batra’s life, you cannot tell his story without his relationship with Dimple, and without what he did in the war. I think what we have done is struck the right balance. There are also so many views, which are just the contrary and they are saying that it is a perfect blend of his personal life and his life as a soldier," Sandeep shared.
Shershaah is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Kaash Entertainment. The film is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
