Akshay Kumar is dealing with a personal loss. The Bollywood superstar lost his strongest pillar, his mother Aruna Bhatia, on Wednesday. For the first time, he'll be celebrating his birthday without her. Akshay turned 54 today. On the occasion, the actor shared a rare picture with Mrs. Bhatia on Instagram and remembered her fondly.
In the picture, Mrs. Bhatia can be seen giving a kiss on Akshay's cheek. The superstar's caption read: "Would have never liked it this way but am sure mom is singing Happy Birthday to me from right up there! Thanks to each one of you for your condolences and wishes alike. Life goes on."
Akshay shared a statement on Instagram announcing the demise of his mother. He wrote, "She was my core. And today I feel an unbearable pain at the very core of my existence. My maa Smt Aruna Bhatia peacefully left this world today morning and got reunited with my dad in the other world. I respect your prayers as I and my family go through this period. Om Shanti."
Mrs. Bhatia's funeral took place on Wednesday in Mumbai. Bollywood celebrities like Rohit Shetty, Riteish Deshmukh, Ramesh Taurani, Sajid Khan and others were in attendance.
