Irrfan's son Babil Khan was supposed to play a younger version of Sardar Udham, reveals producer Ronnie Lahiri

Vicky Kaushal is starring in and as Sardar Udham in Shoojit Sircar's upcoming Amazon Prime Video film. It will release on the OTT platform on October 16. It is a well-known fact that Shoojit wanted to collaborate with his friend Irrfan for Sardar Udham. The actor had reportedly given his dates to the film. However, things took an unfortunate turn and due to his illness and cancer treatment, Irrfan reportedly couldn't take up the project.

Now, days before Sardar Udham's release, producer Ronnie Lahiri revealed in an interview that Irrfan's elder son Babil I Khan was being considered to play the younger version of the freedom fighter in the film initially. "I saw Babil when he was in school. Irrfan wanted us to meet because there was a point where for this film ('Sardar Udham'), he was supposed to play a younger version for Irrfan sir," Ronnie told.

Ronnie and Shoojit have teamed up with Babil for a separate project which was announced in June this year. Not much about the project has been disclosed. Talking about it, Ronnie said,
"So, there is something called destiny. That's how we met him when he was a shy school kid and then we met him, he is a grown-up and a sweet boy."

Post Irrfan's demise in April 2020, Babil has been keeping his father's memories alive by sharing old pictures on social media. He will be officially making his acting debut opposite Tripti Dimri in Anvita Dutt's Netflix film Qala. On September 27, PeepingMoon had exclusively informed its readers that Babil will be headlining Yash Raj Films' first web series. It is said to be an investigative thriller directed by Shiv Rawail.

Speaking of Sardar Udham, the film is based on Udham Singh, who assassinated Michael O' Dwyer, former lieutenant governor of Punjab, in revenge for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar in 1919. The film also stars Amol Parashar and Banita Sandhu.
