Shoojit Sircar shared a family-like relationship with Irrfan. They collaborated for Piku in 2015 and were in talks for Sardar Udham too. However, when Irrfan's health deteriorated, Sardar Udham went to Vicky Kaushal, who played the role with perfection. Now, post the demise of Irrfan, Shoojit continues to be in touch with the actor's family. He even signed the acclaimed actor's elder son Babil Khan for an undisclosed project.
Talking about signing Babil for a project, Shoojit told a leading daily that he and producer Ronnie Lahiri didn't want to detach themselves from Irrfan and his family. "Our whole thing was that we did not want to detach after Irrfan left. We just wanted to, so that we are still in touch… Babil is a young boy, we have seen him really small, when he was growing up, and Irrfan was always worried about him and what he was going to do. But now, we are in touch with him, we are going to work," Shoojit told.
Shoojit further said, "Babil is still quite young and he has a long way to go but somehow, it feels quite good that we are still in touch with Irrfan."
Ronnie, in an interview, revealed that Babil was being considered to play the younger version of Irrfan in Sardar Udham. However, the plan didn't materialise as the film wasn't made with him. Sardar Udham released on Amazon Prime Video on October 16 and received rave reviews.
Workwise, Babil will be making his acting debut in Anushka Sharma-produced Qala co-starring Tripti Dimri and Swastika Mukherjee. On September 27, PeepingMoon had exclusively informed its readers that he will be headlining Yash Raj Films' first web series. It is said to be an investigative thriller directed by Shiv Rawail.
