Filmmaker Karan Johar's upcoming film Takht, which was announced in 2018, got extremely delayed due to the pandemic. The film starring Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Anil Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar and Janhvi Kapoor was going to be KJo's return to direction after his 2016 romantic-drama Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, however, Karan directly started Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh's Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani a while back. Now, the filmmaker has given a fresh update on why Takht could not go on floors and when the team is finally planning to shoot.
He said, "That movie I am going to make right after Rocky Aur Rani. I cannot let that get away. That film is a piece of my heart. We prepped for 2.5 years, we were rearing to go. I still remember we were starting on the 24th of April when the pandemic hit us in March. And because that film was so vast, voluminous and large in scale, on a daily basis it needed a 1000 people on set, it was that kind of a film. It was an epic period film based in the Mughal era."
KJo added, "Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani is my excitement project but Takht is my passion project and you can’t run away from your passion. So right after I am done with my excitement, I’ll head towards my passion,” he added.
Talking about Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, the love story, which involves a Bengali girl played by Alia and a Punjabi boy played by Ranveer, also stars Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi in pivotal roles. The film will mark Karan's return to the director’s chair after five years. KJo's last directorial Ae Dil Hai Mushkil came out in 2016.
