Bombay HC modifies bail condition for Aryan Khan, grants relief to him from weekly attendance at NCB Mumbai office

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday allowed an application filed by Aryan Khan seeking modification of his bail condition to appear before the Narcotics Control Bureau every Friday. The relief came today from the Bombay High Court, which scrapped this bail condition. The 23-year-old had filed an application in the High Court, seeking that this bail condition -- one of 14 -- be amended.

In his application, Aryan has said that every Friday, when he visits the agency’s office in Mumbai, he is escorted by police officials due to the presence of a large number of media personnel outside the NCB office. As per the plea, he is relentlessly accosted by the press, gets extensively photographed and questioned, all of which is unwarranted. Aryan added that he has “firm roots in society” and will cooperate as and when summoned.

A single-judge bench of Justice Nitin W Sambre said that Aryan will have to appear before the Special Investigation team of the NCB in Delhi as and when summoned, provided 72-hour notice is given by the Central agency. The court said that the applicant will have to inform the investigating officer and provide an itinerary before going out of Mumbai.

Aryan was arrested by the anti-drugs agency on October 3 following a raid on a cruise ship off the Mumbai coast. On October 28 -- three weeks after the arrest -- he was granted bail by the Bombay High Court, which found multiple holes in the agency's case against him.
