Nikhil Dwivedi to produce Rajesh Khanna's biopic; Farah Khan in talks to direct the film

December 29 will be celebrated as Rajesh Khanna's birth anniversary. Dubbed the "First Superstar" of Bollywood, he was the highest-paid actor in Hindi cinema through the '70s and '80s. Married to Dimple Kapadia, Mr Khanna had a larger-than-life journey. Now, ahead of his birth anniversary, there is special news for all his fans.

Mr Khanna's biopic is on the cards. The reference material will be taken from Gautam Chintamani's book Dark Star: The Loneliness of Being Rajesh Khanna. The book attempts to chronicle the life of one of Hindi cinema’s most enigmatic ‘stars’. Farah Khan has been approached to direct the yet-to-be-titled film, which will be produced by Nikhil Dwivedi.

Born as Jatin Khanna in 1942, the superstar made his debut in 1966 with Aakhri Khat which was India's first official Oscar Entry in 1967. He was a Member of Parliament in the 10th Lok Sabha from New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency between 1992 and 1996, elected in the 1992 New Delhi by-election as an Indian National Congress candidate. He was popularly known as Kaka, which means a baby faced boy in Punjabi. 

On the personal front, he was in a relationship with Anju Mahendroo, but they broke up after 7 years of being together. He married Dimple in 1973. However, they parted ways in 1982. Twinkle Khanna and Rinke Khanna are Mr Khanna and Dimple's daughters. The former is married to superstar Akshay Kumar and is a successful author herself. 

Mr Khanna passed away on July 18, 2012. In 2013, he was posthumously awarded the Padma Bhushan.
