Siddharth defends his ‘subtle cock’ comment against Saina Nehwal’s tweet, gets slammed by netizens and National Commission for Women

Siddharth was called out on Twitter today for his tweet criticizing and demeaning badminton champion Saina Nehwal. Earlier, Saina had expressed her concern over the security threat to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s life over the security breach in Punjab. Siddharth retweeted her post and wrote, “, "Subtle cock champion of the world (sic)." His tweet did not sit well with the netizens who blasted him. However, he once again took to Twitter to defend his tweet but the Twitterati including a few celebs and the National Commission for Women called his out for his sexist remark.

Last week, Saina Nehwal took to Twitter to share her thoughts on the security breach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She wrote, "No Nation can claim itself to be safe if the security of its own PM gets compromised. I condemn, in the strongest words possible, the cowardly attack on PM Modi by anarchists (sic)." Siddharth quoted Saina's tweet and wrote, "Subtle cock champion of the world... Thank God we have protectors of India. Shame on you #Rihanna (sic)." The Tamil-Telugu actor was lambasted for his crass remark but he remained unfazed and defended his tweet by writing, “’COCK & BULL’ That's the reference. Reading otherwise is unfair and leading! Nothing disrespectful was intended, said or insinuated. Period (sic)."

National Commission for Women Chairperson Rekha Sharma also condemned Siddharth for his actions. She tweeted, "This man needs a lesson or two. Why this person's account still exists? Taking it up with concerned Police."

Other netizens slammed the actor as well. Check out their tweets below:

On the other hand, Saina reacted to the tweet and told an online portal, “I’m not sure what he meant... I used to like him as an actor but this was not nice. He can express himself with better words but I guess it’s Twitter and you remain noticed with such words and comments. If the security of the PM of India is an issue, then I’m not sure what is secure in the country."
