RIP Lata Mangeshkar: PM Narendra Modi 'anguished beyond words'; Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray mourns the legendary singer's demise

Lata Mangeshkar's demise at the age of 92 has left a major void in Indian cinema. The end of an era came this morning at Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital. After the news of her demise broke, people across the nation offered condolences on social media.

Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi tweeted, "I am anguished beyond words. The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled. The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerise people." In another tweet, he added, "Lata Didi’s songs brought out a variety of emotions. She closely witnessed the transitions of the Indian film world for decades. Beyond films, she was always passionate about India’s growth. She always wanted to see a strong and developed India."

Uddhav Thackeray, who shared a family-like relationship with Lata Didi, mourned her demise. 

Rahul Gandhi tweeted, "Received the sad news of Lata Mangeshkar ji’s demise. She remained the most beloved voice of India for many decades. Her golden voice is immortal and will continue to echo in the hearts of her fans. My condolences to her family, friends and fans."

Nitin Gadkari paid a visit to Lata Didi before her demise and also offered condolence to the bereaved family. 

Sanjay Raut mourned the demise of the Bharat Ratna recipient.
