Lata Mangeshkar's ashes immersed in Nashik's Ramkund by family members

Lata Mangeshkar's family immersed the legendary singer's ashes in Ramkund, on the banks of the Godavari river in Nashik, on Thursday. The Bharat Ratna recipient's sister Usha Mangeshkar and nephew Adinath Mangeshkar performed all the rituals amid tight security. 

In a statement to the media, Usha Mangeshkar told, "She (Lata Mangeshkar) was not my sister, but mother. All the rituals have been performed on an auspicious muhurat." Usha and Adinath were with other members of the family.

Lata Mangeshkar, 92, passed away in Mumbai on February 6. She was admitted to Breach Candy in January after testing positive for COVID-19. During the treatment, it was learnt that the legendary singer suffered from pneumonia too which affected her lungs. She was taken off the ventilator when she recovered but her health deteriorated 2-3 days before her demise. 

The doctors, announcing her demise, said she suffered from multi-organ failure and chest congestion. Lata Mangeshkar was cremated at Shivaji Park with full state honours. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, actors Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Vidya Balan and former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar had attended the funeral.
