Veteran singer-music director Bappi Lahiri -- who wielded the baton at the age of 17 -- passed away here in the early hours of Wednesday. He was 69 and breathed his last in the Criticare Hospital where he was admitted for certain post-Covid issues. For several years, Bappi Da's biopic has been in news. While it hasn't been made yet, several filmmakers and producers approached the legendary singer for his story.
In 2019, Bappi Da had told a news agency that he has been approached for a film on his life by a lot of people but he is yet to decide on anything. He said, "Yes, a lot of people are approaching me to make a film on my life but I haven't finalised anything. The biopic should start by this year."
Bappi da went on to add that he would like to see Ranveer Singh play his younger self in the biopic. "Actor Ranveer Singh could probably play my younger version...you know the 1970s, 80' and 90s time," he added.
Born in West Bengal, Lahiri first composed music for a Bengali film 'Daadu' and launched his Bollywood career with a film, Nanha Shikari. He shot to global fame with his chart-busting music for Disco Dancer and the song 'Jimmy, Jimmy, Aaja, Aaja...", and later the superhit music for "Zakhmee", Lahu Ke Do Rang. Prominent Bollywood personalities have expressed shock and condoled the demise of Lahiri, who was fondly known as Bappi Da in the industry.
