Alia Bhatt, who is all set to play a courtesan who becomes somewhat of a leader of a red light district in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi, has now reacted to comparisons between her and Kangana Ranaut and Vidya Balan's past performances. Alia said that she is not aware of any such comparisons.
In an interview with a Bollywood website, Alia was asked about the backlash that her casting in the film initially received, particularly the comparisons made to Kangana and Vidya. Alia said, “No, I have not heard any of this.” She continued, “Yeah, people must have suggested casting. But I feel like one should not really get into… Somebody who is a director who has been working for 25 years obviously knows whom to cast in their main lead. I was okay with people thinking I was not right for the part because that is their own perspective.”
Last year during the promotions of Thalaivii, Kangana had taken a dig at the trailer of Gangubai Kathiawadi and said it was, "‘hugely criticised and mocked for bad acting and wrong casting of chota bachcha as gangster"
Produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Dr. Jayantilal Gada (Pen Studios), the film is all set to release theatrically on February 25, 2022.
