‘If the film wasn't good, it wouldn't have worked,’ says Abhishek Bachchan heaping praise on Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files; latter thanks him for his ‘graciousness’

Abhishek Bachchan has joined the brigade of Bollywood celebrities heaping praise on Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files. The actor spoke about the film at a recent interview where he was promoting his upcoming release Dasvi and said that film has connected to the masses and worked because it is a good film and has good content. Agnihotri shared the clip of Abhishek’s interview on social media and thanked the actor.

Abhishek said in the interview, “You were talking about The Kashmir Files. The genesis of it is what- we have been discussing that for two-three days. Whatever you say, you want to politicise it, you want to communalise it, that is your freedom of speech and opinion. But if the film wasn't good, it wouldn't have worked. There is no other reason why it's working. You can take out a lot of other meanings and ripple effects. The foundation is that it has to be a good film."

He clarified and said that his opinion isn’t based on personal experience as he is yet to see the film and said, “Again, it's not my place to say because I haven't seen the film. But I've not met anybody who said it's a bad film. That is the only truth of cinema. If a film does good business, it has to be a good film.”

The Kashmir Files, which released on March 11, has become one of the biggest grossers at the box office by garnering Rs 250 crores without having any big A-list hero in its star cast. The film is based on the genocide and exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Kashmir Valley in the early 90s and stars Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumaar, and others. The trade insiders had not much faith on the film doing such great numbers at the box office given its heavy subject and having no big stars but it has left everyone stumped.

Agnihotri thanked Abhishek for the praise and the latter responded that he will soon watch the film. Abhishek’s Dasvi co-star Yami Gautam had previously hailed the film and said that she empathizes with the pain of Kashmiri Pandits as she is married to director Aditya Dhar who is one himself. Aditya had also applauded the film calling it a brave effort.
