Jayeshbhai Jordaar Trailer: Ranveer Singh on the run with his pregnant wife Shalini Pandey as he challenges the patriarchal stereotype about sex-selective abortions

Ranveer Singh's YRF film Jayeshbhai Jordaar is a clutter-breaking, high-concept commercial entertainer that deals with the sensitive subject of female feticide. Yash Raj Films released the trailer this morning and well, it looks promising. The film also stars Arjun Reddy fame Shalini Pandey, Boman Irani, and Ratna Pathak Shah in pivotal roles. Jayeshbhai Jordaar is releasing on May 13 and YRF is leaving no stone unturned to make sure the film reaches everyone. Although there’s huge anticipation around this Divyang Thakkar directorial, the makers so far cleverly stayed away from revealing what the film is about. They built it up as a humorous entertainer which presents a new brand of film hero and heroism rarely seen in Indian cinema.

However, Jayeshbhai Jordaar is the story of a Gujarati man on the run with his pregnant wife who ends up championing the cause of women’s empowerment through his strongly disruptive choices. Jayeshbhai is an unlikely hero who tries to bring about constructive changes throughout the film, challenging the patriarchal stereotype about mass sex-selective abortions in the most implausible way.

The film, although perceived as a comedy entertainer, promises to be an emotional rollercoaster ride that will leave viewers teary-eyed and in awe of Ranveer Singh’s character who does the most questionable things yet turns out to be the real hero. Our sources say the film has turned out to be great and deserves a communal movie experience on big screens.

Female feticide is the practice of finding out the sex of the fetus and undergoing abortion if it’s a girl. India has one of the highest rates of female feticide in the world and although the government has made attempts to curb this abhorrent practice with acts such as the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act (PCPNDT), it’s still rampant across the country. Jayeshbhai Jordaar is believed to break these social barriers and prejudices with a stirring storyline set in Gujarat.
