Veteran film director T Rama Rao passes away due to age-related illness at 83

Veteran renowned producer-director T Rama Rao, who made blockbuster films with Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth, Dharmendra, Vijay and many more, passed away this morning. He breathed his last in Chennai at the age of 83. T Rama Rao was admitted to a private hospital for age-related illness. 

Actor Anupam Kher condoled his death on Twitter. “Deeply saddened to know about the demise of veteran filmmaker & a dear friend Shri #TRamaRao ji. I had the privilege of working with him in #AakhriRaasta and #Sansaar!! He was compassionate, commanding & had a great sense of humour. My condolences to his family! Om Shanti!” he wrote.

Throughout his career span, the ace filmmaker has made many successful Hindi remakes. He was more popular in Bollywood in the 1980s as he had successfully remade Tamil and Telugu blockbusters in Hindi. Some of his notable Bollywood films include Andha Kaanoon, Ek Hi Bhool, Mujhe Insaaf Chayihe, and Naache Mayuri.

Rama Rao was 'the man who established the 'Madras movie', or Hindi films funded primarily by the southern capital, as a viable commercial option in the all-India market. He made Tamil films under the banner Sri Lakshmi Productions.
