Shibani Dandekar and Farhan Akhtar had a surreal, simple and close-knit wedding ceremony at Javed Akhtar-Shabana Azmi's farmhouse in Khandala on February 19. After dating for a few years, the lovely couple took a step forward in their relationship. Despite being public figures, Farhan and Shibani managed to keep their special moments guarded against the media's constant attention. Now, in an interview with a magazine, Shibani spoke about why Farhan's proposal was 'unexpected'.
In the interview, she revealed Farhan proposed to her in the Maldives. The magazine stated that "Farhan went down on one knee in the Maldives and Shibani was caught off guard". "It was a very unexpected proposal. I had no idea it was going to happen. We had not even discussed it. But this is again Farhan, when he decides something, he does it. I was never the kind who wanted to get married and have all that jazz. But when Farhan asked, it just felt right in the moment and after the initial shock, I said a yes," Shibani told the magazine.

After a close-knit wedding in Khandala, Shibani and Farhan had a registered marriage in Mumbai on February 21. The actress got the wedding date inked on her arm. It is in Roman numerals - XXI.II.XXII.
On February 23, Farhan and Shibani officially shared pictures from their wedding in Khandala. The actor wrote, "A few days ago, @shibanidandekar & I celebrated our union and we are deeply grateful to all those who did respect our need for privacy on the day. The celebration however, is incomplete without sharing some precious moments with you and seeking your blessings as we begin our journey across the skies of time, together. With love from us to you."
