AR Rahman defends Will Smith after his slapgate incident on 'The Kapil Sharma Show', says 'sometimes such things happen'

Weeks after everyone at the Dolby Theater was in for a shock when Hollywood star Will Smith walked up to the stage and slapped comic artist Chris Rock over his humorous remark on Will's wife Jada Pinkett Smith, renowned singer-composer AR Rahman has reacted to the incident. 

AR Rahman recently appeared on The Kapil Sharma Show as he joined Heropanti 2 cast to promote the film. As a segment of the show involves host Kapil Sharma showing funny comments on Instagram posts of guests, AR Rahman was shown comments below his picture with Will Smith. The photo was shared in 2018. When AR Rahman was shown his picture with Will Smith and the sarcastic comments on the post, the singer-composer defended Will and called him a “nice person”.

 On being shown a picture with Will, Rahman said, “He is a sweetheart. He is a nice person." He further added while hinting at Will slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars, “Sometimes such things happen."

While some netizens lauded AR Rahman's support toward Will, some bashed the composer for promoting and defending violence.
