Legendary actress Nargis lost her life to cancer before on May 3, 1981 - just 3 days before son Sanjay Dutt's debut Rocky released. On her 41st death anniversary today, like every year, her son-actor Sanjay remembered his mother fondly and went down the memory lane as he shared a throwback collage of his 'Ma'. On his Instagram account, Sanjay shared a throwback picture featuring a collage of late Nargis.
The actor captioned the post as, "Not a single moment goes by when I don’t remember you. Ma, you were the basis of my life and the strength of my soul. I wish my wife and kids would have met you for you to give them all your love and blessings. I miss you today and every day!"
Nargis was born as Fatima Rashid on June 1, 1929, in Calcutta, and made her screen debut as a child artiste in Talash-E-Haq in 1935. Her acting career as a full-fledged heroine began when she was just 14, in Mehboob Khan’s Taqdeer (1943). In a career that spanned two decades, she appeared in many commercially successful as well as critically appreciated films.
Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 1980, Nargis slipped into coma on May 2, 1981, and breathed her last on May 3 which was exactly three days before the premiere of Sanjay's debut film Rocky. As an ode to his mother, Sanjay kept a seat vacant beside him for her in the cinema hall.
