Veteran Congress leader and former Union minister Pandit Sukh Ram breathed his last. The politician and grandfather of actor Aayush Sharma was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi a few days ago. He was 94 years old.
The news of Pandit Sukh Ram's demise was shared by his grandson Aashray Sharma on Facebook. Sharing a throwback picture, Aashray wrote, "Alvida Dadaji, Abhi Nahi Bajegee Phone Ki Ghanti (Goodbye grandfather, now the phone will not ring)."
Pandit Sukh Ram's mortal remains are expected to reach Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, by 6 PM today. The funeral date and time are yet to be announced.
The veteran politician suffered a brain stroke on May 4 in Manali. He was immediately taken to a hospital in Mandi. However, he was soon airlifted to AIIMS in Delhi for better treatment. Days later, he succumbed to the stroke.
Pandit Sukh Ram was the first man to have made the first mobile phone call in India. In 1995, India marked its first-ever mobile phone call between then Union Telecom Minister, Pandit Sukh Ram, and West Bengal CM Jyoti Basu.
