For the first time, India was announced as the official country of honour at the Marche Du Films, also called Cannes Film Market. It is held on the sidelines of the Cannes Film Festival 2022. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur led the Indian delegation. Celebrities like Pooja Hegde, Tamannah Bhatia, Urvashi Rautela, Mame Khan, R Madhavan, Kamal Haasan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, A R Rahman, Shekhar Kapur, Vani Tripathi, Rickey Kej, and Prasoon Joshi were in attendance on Tuesday as the film festival commenced.
Now, on the second day of the film festival, the Indian delegation reunited for a press meet. During the meet, folk singer Mame Khan left everyone enthralled by singing the Rajasthani song Ghoomar. Deepika Padukone, one of the jury members of the Cannes Film Festival 2022, danced to the song. She was joined by Pooja, Tamannah and Urvashi. For the unversed, the song Ghoomar from Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat was picturised on Deepika.
Mame Khan became the first folk artiste from India to walk Cannes 2022 red carpet.
