Punjabi singer-rapper & politician Sidhu Moosewala shot dead a day after police withdraws security

Renowned Punjabi singer and rapper Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead on Sunday in Punjab's Mansa district by unknown assailants. He had joined the political party, Congress, last year and had contested elections this year. Reportedly, 30 rounds of bullets were fired in which two others have been injured. Sidhu was 28 years old.

Sidhu was rushed to a hospital in Mansa where he was declared dead on arrival. The deadly attack on the singer-rapper came a day after Punjab Police withdrew the security of around 424 people including Sidhu. While withdrawing the security, the additional director general of police (security) had said in an order on Friday that the security personnel were “being withdrawn on a purely temporary basis in connection with an emergent law and order duty."

Sidhu, who contested the Punjab assembly elections from Mansa, was defeated by Aam Aadmi Party's candidate Vijay Singla by a huge margin of 63,000 votes. However, Vijay was sacked by Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann over charges of corruption.

In the month of April, Sidhu released a song titled Scapegoat and allegedly called AAP supporters ‘gaddar’. The song sparked a major controversy in Punjab's political space. It is still unclear whether Sidhu's assassination was a result of political rivalry.
