Ayan Mukerji displays his vision of desi Astraverse in a visually arresting ‘Brahmastra’ trailer ft Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Nagarjuna & Mouni Roy

There are big-scale films, there are magnum opuses, and then comes Brahmastra. All the ideas, visuals and magic that lived rent-free in Ayan Mukerji’s mind and heart are finally presented to the world through Brahmastra’s breathtakingly beautiful trailer. Creating his own desi Marvel universe with heavy influence from Hindu mythology, Ayan’s world opens up multiple possibilities for Indian cinema and for future generations.

Brahmastra is the gateway to understanding the life of an orphan named Shiva (Ranbir Kapoor) who has the boon of emitting fire from his palm. His introduction to Isha (Alia Bhatt) happens at Kali Puja. Over the course of time, Shiva learns about his superpowers and his purpose on the earth. Attaining the Brahmastra remains the core of the film. Agni, Jal and Vayu must play a key role to cause the arrival of the divine weapon which in Hindu mythology is considered to be the most powerful one.

Bringing the world of Ayan alive on the big screen are Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Mouni Roy. Yes, with a special appearance by Shah Rukh Khan! *Drum rolls, SRK fans!* While the trailer introduces us to the never-seen-before world of Brahmastra, we will get to know more about each character gradually. Revolving around a secret society called the Brahmnsh, who generation after generation have protected many divine ‘Astras’ or weapons that were created in ancient India, and safe-guarded from the eyes of the world.

Ayan’s brainchild and the VFX he has put together with an Indian as well as an international crew proved way better than what was expected. With minute details of particles, imaginary celestial creatures and a blend of fire, water and air, Brahmastra lives up to all the hype. Indeed, this September, the ‘khel’ of divine beings and supreme powers will officially commence.

In a statement, Ayan said, "Marking the beginning of a new cinematic universe, ‘The Astraverse’, I believe Brahmstra is the kind of film that the country would feel really proud of. It touches on our roots; celebrates our rich culture and it takes us forward with our technology. The film is proudly Indian and Imaginative and bringing together some of Pan-India’s most renowned names was a dream come true!"

Brahmastra, which is releasing this year, is the first part of Ayan's trilogy and is titled Shiva. It is also the beginning of India’s first original universe The Astraverse. Produced by Star Studios, Dharma Productions, Prime Focus and Starlight Pictures, Brahmastra will release theatrically on September 9, 2022, in 5 Indian languages – Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
