A lot has been spoken about Sushmita Sen's love life ever since Lalit Modi made his relationship with the Bollywood actress public. Some nameless-faceless people on the internet have been calling Sushmita a 'gold digger' for being in a relationship with Lalit. Well, what a patriarchal way to put it in. Sushmita, like the star that she is, put all trolls to rest as she penned a long note last evening. Sushmita wrote, "It’s heartbreaking to see just how miserable & unhappy the world around us is becoming….The so called intellectuals with their idiosyncrasies….the ignorant with their cheap & at times funny gossip. The friends I never had & the acquaintances I’ve never met….all sharing their grand opinions & deep knowledge of my life & character…monetising the ‘Gold Digger’ all the way!!! Ah these geniuses!!! I dig deeper than Gold…and I’ve always (famously) preferred Diamonds!! And yes I still buy them myself!!!"
Now, Sushmita's ex Vikram Bhatt has come out in support of the actress. He said, “Sushmita is the last person who checks out bank balances before she decides to fall in love with someone. I was penniless. I was directing Ghulam, but I had no money. I will not forget that Sushmita was the person who first took me to the US, and she paid for my trip. I had no money. When we reached Los Angeles and there was a limousine, and I was surprised. She said that she wanted to make my entry in the US very special.”
“Sushmita is a love digger, not a gold digger,” the filmmaker exclaimed and added that social media trolls are a part of a celebrity’s life. “I think making fun of other people's life is entertainment. Someone’s tragedy is someone’s entertainment, that’s always there. When Kareena [Kapoor] married Saif [Ali Khan], even she was trolled. So, I think it goes with the territory, if you are a celebrity and if there is a decision of yours which seems funny to netizens, they start trolling,” Vikram told.
He further explained how he got sent an article where Sushmita and her relationship were compared to a cricket team. “Someone sent me a forward with the names of her 11 boyfriends and my name was there. Something about Sushmita’s cricket team of 11. I mean if you are in your 40s and not married, chances are you will have these many relationships. And these are people who have many more on the side. They have the nerve to send it to me directly,” Vikram shared.
Vikram also told us that he is in 'no-terms' with Sushmita. He explained, “The last time I met her was back in say 2006-2007. It doesn’t count, some 15 years back. We haven’t been in touch for that long but the gratitude that the boy in this man feels towards her, for how she treated him, as far as money is concerned, is not going to go. I will stand up for her and say that the last thing she can ever be is a gold digger.”
