Veteran actress Asha Parekh is all set to be honoured with India’s highest film honour, the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for her exceptional contribution to Indian cinema this year. Asha made her acting debut as a leading lady in Dil Deke Dekho (1959) opposite Shammi Kapoor. Earlier, she had started her career as a child artist with the name Baby Asha Parekh and featured in Maa (1952) and Baap Beti (1954).
Indian news agency ANI tweeted. "Dada Saheb Phalke Award to be conferred to actor Asha Parekh this year: Union Minister Anurag Thakur.” She was honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1992. Last year, Rajinikanth was honoured with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award award for 2019. The awards were postponed by a year due to the pandemic.

Asha has given several hit films throughout her career and was one of the most sought-after actresses in her prime. Some of her hit films are Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai (1961), Teesri Manzil, Do Badan (1966), Kati Patang (1970), Caravan (1971), and Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki (1978) among others. In the 90s, Asha featured in fewer films and did movies like Professor Ki Padosan, Bhagyawan (1993), Ghar Ki Izzat (1994) and Andolan (1995).
After quitting acting, Asha became a television director with the Gujarati serial Jyoti. She also turned producer with her production company, Akruti and produced serials like Palash ke Phool, Baaje Payal, Kora Kagaz and Dal Mein Kaala. In 2008, she was a judge on the reality show Tyohaar Dhamaaka on 9X.
