Vicky Kaushal's sci-fi mythological film The Immortal Ashwatthama has been in the news for quite some years. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was put on hold. Now, it is finally being revived but with a change in the cast. While Vicky remains in the titular role, Samantha Ruth Prabhu has replaced Sara Ali Khan. According to a news portal's report, the latter had to exit the film due to date issues and a change of role.
A source told the portal, "After the film was indefinitely pushed and between revival, the script has been revised as well. While the earlier script demanded a young girl to be cast, Sara was on board. However, with the dates clashing and the change of role, it was no longer doable. The script in its current state needs a slightly older actress to be cast opposite Vicky. Hence, now the makers are looking at other options."
The source further added that the pre-production for The Immortal Ashwatthama has already begun and given the fact that it will be a large-scale film, the makers are spending nearly 8-10 months on pre-production to ensure everything is in place and ready.
The poster of The Immortal Ashwatthama was unveiled on January 11, 2021. However, the name of the female protagonist was never announced. The film is directed by Aditya Dhar and is expected to be bankrolled by Ronnie Screwvala.
