On 33rd anniversary of India's first Coal mine rescue operation, Akshay Kumar confirms mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill's biopic

Akshay Kumar has confirmed his next film. The superstar will bring the story of mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill to the silver screen along with Pooja Entertainment. The biopic was confirmed today as India's first coal mine rescue operation completed 33 years. Mr. Gill played an important role in saving miners trapped in a Coal mine in 1989. 

The Union Minister of Coal and Mines-Govt of India, Pralhad Joshi, remembered Mr. Gill on the rescue operation's 33rd anniversary. He tweeted, "Remembering Late Sardar Jaswant Singh Gill ji for his heroic role in rescuing 65 workers from a flooded coal mine, in 1989. We are proud of our #CoalWarriors who battle everyday against the odds to assure India's energy security."

In response to this, Akshay wrote, "Grateful to you @JoshiPralhad ji, for recalling India’s first coal mine rescue mission - this day 33yrs ago. It is an honour to play the role of #SardarJaswantSinghGill ji in my next film. It’s a story like no other!"

Sharing the announcement, Pooja Entertainment's chief Vashu Bhagnani wrote, "Remembering Late #SardarJaswantSinghGill on this day, who rescued the lives of miners who were stuck in the coal mines of Raniganj under very difficult circumstances. It is indeed an honour and privilege to showcase his heroic act in our next film."

The film, tentatively titled Capsule Gill, is directed by Tinu Suresh Desai. It is expected to release in theatres in 2023. Parineeti Chopra stars opposite Akshay in the rescue drama.
