Veteran film and theatre actor & National Award winner Vikram Gokhale passes away at a hospital in Pune

Veteran actor Vikram Gokhale, known for his illustrious career in the Hindi and Marathi entertainment industry, breathed his last at a hospital in Pune today. He was reportedly admitted in a critical condition around 15 days ago. 

According to reports, his condition had stabilised after the initial treatment, however, in the past few days, it deteriorated all over again. The Gokhale family as well as his doctors are yet to issue an official statement confirming the reason behind his demise.

As per a section of media, rumours were rife a few months ago that Gokhale was suffering from cancer. The family refused to give out any details back then. In 2016, he decided to take retirement from Marathi theatre due to persistent throat issues. 

A prolific actor, Gokhale started his acting career in 1971 with Parwana. He then went on to win the audience's hearts by playing important roles in films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Agneepath, Khuda Gawah, Bhool Bhulaiyaa etc. The veteran actor also the National Award for Best Actor in 2010 for his performance in the Marathi film Anumati. Apart from acting, he directed the Marathi film Aaghaat. His last Hindi film was Nikamma and Marathi film was Godavari.
