Akshay Kumar attended the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah last night. In an In-Conversation event at Saudi Arabia’s fest he revealed that he is making a feature film on the theme of sex education and said that he hopes to release it next spring.
Talking about the film during the media interaction, Akshay said, “It’s a very important subject. In a lot of places, it is not there. We have all kinds of subjects we learn in school and sex education is one topic I would like all the schools in the world to have. It’s going to take time to release, it’s going to be April, May,” he said, adding “It’s one of the best films I’ve ever made.”
Akshay was met with near hysteria at the film festival as fans clamored to get a glimpse of the star and click pictures of him as he entered the Vox Cinemas for the event. Moderator Kaleem Aftab had to read the riot act to the audience to get them to sit down and remain calm. Akshay, who has a diverse filmography under his belt with comedy, action, drama and social cause films, spoke about why he chooses to do such films that impact the society.
Talking about his groundbreaking work in the 2018 film Padman that tackled the taboo topic of menstruation and lack of access to sanitary products said, “I like to do these sorts of films, social films. It’s not that big a commercial success film but it gives me satisfaction. After Padman, one of my friends told me, ‘My relationship with my daughter has changed. She has opened up so much because we saw this movie together, now she calls me up and says dad, I started my period can you get a sanitary pack for me on the way home from the office’ and that sort of thing. I still do films with dances and comedy. I enjoy doing these films,” he said. “These are also an important part of your career. You have to do it.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, Akshay remains one of the busiest and most bankable Bollywood stars. He has Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, OMG! Oh My God 2, Gorkha, Capsule Gill in the pipeline for next year.
