‘There are technical issues,’ says Aanand L Rai confirming Akshay Kumar’s Gorkha is on hold

Several reports have been doing the rounds that Akshay Kumar’s Gorkha has been shelved. It was also rumoured that the actor walked out of the film after its authenticity was questioned. However, now, director Aanand L Rai has issued a clarification about the fate of the film. He has confirmed that the film has indeed been shelved for the time being but Akshay has not walked out of it.

Talking to an online portal, Aanand said, “Yes, it is true. We are not making this film for now. There are technical issues. There are factual clarifications that need to be made.” He also said that reports of Akshay walking out are untrue. Gorkha was based on the exemplary bravery of Major General Ian Cardozo who fought two wars, the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 and Pakistani-Bangladesh War of 1971 under the Gorkha Rifles regiments. He headed the Gorkha Rifles regiment and was critically injured when he stepped on a land mine. He used his khukri to amputate his own leg.

It was reported previously that Akshay had quit the project owing to questions about the authenticity of the events said to be a part of the film. Another daily reported a source that said, “Some veterans from the unit that Major General Cardozo was attached with during the war reached out, putting major question marks on his version of the events. Akshay has the utmost respect for the armed forces and does not want to associate with a story that may have a shadow of doubt.”
