Acclaimed artist and legendary filmmaker Guru Dutt’s sister, Lalita Lajmi passed away on Monday, February 13, 2023 at the age of 90 years. Jehangir Nicholson Art Foundation shared the news of her passing on social media. The ‘self-taught’ artist had made a special cameo appearance in Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par.
The Jehangir Nicholson Art Foundation wrote, “We are deeply saddened by the news of artist Lalitha Lajmi’s passing. Lajmi was a self-taught artist with a keen interest in classical dance. Her works had an element of melancholy and performance, seen here in her artwork, ‘Dance of Life and Death’."

Her demise was mourned by netizens and celebs alike. She was the mother of film director, producer and screenwriter Kalpana Lajmi who passed away on September 23, 2018 at the age of 64 after being diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2017.
