All eyes were on the 95th Academy Awards. With racing hearts filled with excitement and anticipation, people of the nation were curiously waiting for the Best Original Song award to be announced at the Oscars 2023. The reason was SS Rajamouli's RRR. The song titled Naatu Naatu from the period drama was nominated in the category. At the Oscars, composer M. M. Keeravaani and lyricist Chandrabose won the Best Original Song award.
Naatu Naatu competed in the Best Original Song category against Lift Me Up from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Hold My Hand from Top Gun Maverick, This is a Life from Everything Everywhere All At Once and Applause from Tell.

Before the Oscars, Naatu Naatu won at the Golden Globes 2023 in January. A few weeks later, it won the Best Song award at the 28th edition of the Critics Choice Awards, while RRR was named Best Foreign Language Film.
Picturised on Jr. NTR and Ram Charan at the Mariinsky Palace (Ukraine Presidential Palace) in Kyiv a couple of months before the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, the song was released in Hindi as Naacho Naacho, in Tamil as Naattu Koothu, in Kannada as Halli Naatu and in Malayalam as Karinthol.
