Parineeta, Mardaani director Pradeep Sarkar passes away at the age of 67

Pradeep Sarkar, known for giving numerous celebrated films over decades, breathed his last at the age of 67. The news was confirmed by filmmaker Hansal Mehta on Twitter. While the reason behind his sudden and untimely death is yet to be made official, reports suggest he was on dialysis and his potassium levels dropped drastically.

Reportedly, he was rushed to a hospital during the wee hours of Friday but he couldn't be saved. Breaking the news, Hansal wrote, "Pradeep Sarkar. Dada. RIP." Ajay Devgn tweeted, "The news of Pradeep Sarkar’s demise, ‘Dada’ to some of us is still hard to digest. My deepest condolences. My prayers are with the departed and his family. RIP Dada (sic)"

Nitu Chandra tweeted, "Very sad to know about our dearest director @pradeepsrkar dada. I started my career with him. He had an aesthetic talent to make his films look larger than life. From #Parineeta #lagachunrimeindaag to a no. Of movies. Dada, you will be be missed. #RestInPeace (sic)"

After beginning his journey as an ad filmmaker, Pradeep forayed into feature films with Parineeta, which won him the National Film Award in the Best Debut Film of a Director category. He was also associated with films like Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Lafangey Parindey, and Mardaani. His last feature film was Helicopter Eela (2018). The filmmaker directed two episodes of the web series Duranga last year.
