Complaint filed against Taapsee Pannu for hurting religious sentiments by wearing Goddess Lakshmi necklace with a 'revealing dress' during fashion show

Taapsee Pannu turned showstopper for renowned fashion designer Monisha Jaising at the Lakmé Fashion Week held in Mumbai earlier this month. The actress wore a sequinned red gown with a plunging necklace from the designer's shelf and aced the look. She completed it with a necklace that had a carved image of Goddess Lakshmi. Now, a BJP member in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, has reportedly filed a complaint against the actress.

According to reports, a person named Eklavya Singh Gaur, who reportedly runs a right-wing outfit called Hind Rakshak Sangathan, and the son of BJP MLA Malini Gaur, claimed in his complaint that Taapsee hurt his religious sentiments and offended Sanatana Dharma by wearing the necklace over a 'revealing dress'. Taapsee's necklace, a product of Reliance Jewels, was a part of the jewellery brand's Akshaya Tritiya collection.

A police officer from Chhatripura police station told a media agency about the complaint. The officer said, "The video (from the fashion show) shows that she wore a necklace with a carved image of the goddess Lakshmi. She wore that and walked the ramp in a revealing dress. The complainant said that wearing a Lakshmi locket with a revealing dress has hurt their religious feelings and Sanatana Dharma. We have received the complaint, and an inquiry is being done accordingly."

In 2021, Eklavya lodged a complaint against stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui in Indore, accusing him of hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus. He stated in the complaint that the comedian cracked jokes on Hindu Gods and made fun of Union Home minister Amit Shah and the Godhra riots at a café, which did not even have the necessary permissions to host an event.
