Silverware worth Rs 39 lakhs reportedly belonging to Boney Kapoor seized in Devangere, Karnataka by Election Commission

The Election Commission of India (ECI) seized 66 kg silverwares worth Rs 39 lakhs at the check post near Hebbalu toll on the outskirts of Karnataka’s Devangere in the wee hours of Friday. The silverware allegedly belongs to Boney Kapoor and was being transported without proper documents in five boxes in a BMW car from Chennai to Mumbai. The car was seized in the poll-bound state of Karnataka.

The ECI officials seized silver bowls, spoons, water mugs and plates. The silver items were kept in five boxes and the car was owned by a company called Bayview Projects Pvt Ltd, founded by Boney Kapoor. The car was being driven by a man identified as Sultan Khan, while another passenger was called Hari Singh.

A case has been reportedly registered a Davangere rural police station against Hari Singh and further interrogation is in the process. After questioning, Hari Singh confessed that the silverware belonged to Kapoor’s family.  However, the officials are yet to verify this claim.

This comes days after election duty officials seized 8.6 kilos of gold worth Rs 1.47 crore and cash of Rs 3.37 crore in Bengaluru. The Election Commission has also revealed that the enforcement agencies have seized nearly Rs 70 crore in poll-bound Karnataka since the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into force on March 29, 2023. Karnataka’s Assembly elections will take place on May 10, while the counting will be held on May 13.
