Priyanka Chopra revealed that a botched nose surgery drove her into a ‘deep depression’ and made her think that it would end her career. The actor spoke about undergoing the procedure to remove a polyp in her nose after winning the Miss World 2000 crown but the doctor shaved off the bridge of her nose, PC called it a ‘dark phase’.
Priyanka said that shortly after winning Miss World she had gone to a doctor as she was having trouble breathing and had a ‘lingering head cold’ and ended up having a botched nose job. She said, “It was a dark phase. This thing happens, and my face looks completely different, and I went into a deep, deep depression.” She said that she was fired from three different films and thought her acting career “was over before it started.”
She revealed that she was under depression and had confined herself to her house; she only left when her father, Ashok Chopra, a doctor himself, encouraged her to get a corrective surgery done. She said, “I was terrified of that, but he was like, 'I will be in the room with you. He held my hands through it and helped me build back my confidence.”
Priyanka also credited director Anil Sharma for giving her work and said, “I was supposed to play this lead, and I was shifted to a supporting character. That filmmaker (Anil Sharma) was very kind… He, while the tide was against me, said, ‘It will be a small part, but give it your all.’ And I did.” Anil had directed Priyanka’s first Hindi film, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy (2003).
