“Shayad main iss duniya mein kuch karne hi nahi aaya siway tumse pyaar,” says Kartik Aaryan in the closing shot of Satyaprem Ki Katha as Kiara Advani is on the other side of the door. The much-anticipated romantic musical is inching closer to its release and the makers premiered the trailer this morning digitally. The trailer introduces the characters - Satyaprem (Kartik Aaryan) who meets Katha (Kiara Advani) and is instantly smitten by her. However, her feelings for him are not clear. Amid extravagant dance numbers and vibrant garba songs, they get married but a secret breaks his heart.
The 2 minutes 35 seconds trailer of this Sameer Vidwans directorial has a desi touch and comes across as a refreshing change from thrillers and actioners. With music being its backbone, Satyaprem Ki Katha has a Sanjay Leela Bhansali-esque vibe to it which is a major factor to draw the audience to cinema halls. It is a smart move from the makers to build up the crescendo and not reveal the main purpose of the film and its core plotline. The trailer leaves you with numerous questions and fan theories are welcomed graciously.
The trailer gives a sneak peek into lavish sets and Gujarati households. When you say Gujarati, there has to be garba. There are glimpses of several garba songs and they are looking simply stunning and larger-than-life. Writer Karan Shrikant Sharma has seemed to balance humour, love and heartbreak all in one and it is exciting to see what's in store. Satyaprem Ki Katha looks like an old-school, typical Bollywood desi romantic drama with songs, dance, tears and laughs.
Kiara Advani looks luminous as Katha. She is a breath of fresh air. Within just 2 minutes, the actress displays a range of emotions and carries an aura that is unmatched. Katha is a mysterious character and Kiara makes the audience believe in her. It could be Kiara’s most unique, stunning and challenging role to date. She is one of the biggest USPs of the trailer.
Kartik Aaryan gets the humour right and makes flirting look adorable. His grand dance numbers will be a major attraction. However, going by its trailer only, the problematic part has to be the lack of softness on his face to pull off a delicate film like Satyaprem Ki Katha. The confidence that he brings on board is enough to cover the flaw and we’re looking forward to seeing him in a proper Bollywood-style romantic avatar.
Kiara and Kartik's chemistry makes the trailer of Satyaprem Ki Katha a talking point. From lip-locks to coordinating on the dance floor and romancing each other despite odds, they do a fantastic job.
Satyaprem Ki Katha promises to end the dearth of a good family romantic drama and we cannot wait for the suspense to be revealed in theatres on June 29.
