In 2012’s super-hit satirical comedy-drama Oh My God, Akshay Kumar played Lord Krishna with effortless ease and a good deal of humour. On August 11, he returns in the sequel as Lord Shiva. The actor announced the film today with a poster of OMG 2 showing himself as Lord Shiva with ash smeared on his face, sporting dreadlocks reaching his knees and dressed in a dhoti with a bead necklace around his neck. Going on Instagram, Akshay said, “Aa rahe hain hum, aaiyega aap bhi (We are coming, you also join us). 11th August. In theatres. OMG 2.”
With this spiritual sequel, Akshay is ready to perform Shiv Tandav at the box office. In the last decade OMG, which spoke about atheism and was a courtroom drama, stayed rent-free in the minds of the audience who found it to have the right balance between humour and a relevant social message. Directed by Amit Rai and co-starring Pankaj Tripathi, Yami Gautam, Arun Govil and Aamir Naik, OMG 2 reportedly revolves around the Indian (sex) education system.
Yami Gautam is the female lead who was clearly missing in OMG 1. We are curious to know about her contribution to the social dramedy releasing on Independence Day weekend this year. Blending modern-day ideologies with religion and ancient beliefs, the sequel could be a pathbreaker too.
