Four-time National Award-winning art director Nitin Chandrakant Desai allegedly committed suicide at his own ND studio in Karjat on Wednesday morning. Aged 57, the incident took place just a few days before his birthday. He would have turned 58 on August 9. Desai has been in the film business for over two decades.
Desai was found dead in the morning by the house help. As per the reports, when he didn't respond from his room after continuous attempts. The house helper and his associates broke the door of the room and found the director hanging. The incident was immediately reported to the police.
As of now, it is considered a suicide, the investigation is going on. Further details are awaited.
Desai has been famous for his outstanding work in films like Lagaan (2001), Jodhaa Akbar (2008), and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo(2015) to name a few. His work also included the magnificent sets of Sanjay Leela Bhansali films and many other directors. Apart from winning the National Film Award for Best Art Director four times, he has also been bestowed with the Filmfare Best Art Direction Award three times.
