Netizens unanimous that Akshay Kumar’s comedy-drama OMG2 is a family film, deserves a U/A certificate from Censors

On a day when so much was happening in Bollywood, and Instagram, Twitter and YouTube were flooded with stories of art director Nitin Desai’s suicide and videos of Karan Johar’s glittering, star-studded ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani’ press conference, netizens rose as one in unanimous support of the exciting trailer of Akshay Kumar’s August 11 release – OMG2. In one voice they decried the Censors Board’s surprising and harsh decision to award the much-anticipated film an ‘A’ certificate.

Led by critical and vociferous film critic and trade analyst KRK, the opinion was that the Censors Board, perhaps stung by the universal criticism of its lenient decision to pass this year’s mythological fantasy-drama Adipurush with a U/A certificate, was taking no chances with OMG2. KRK was having none of it. “The trailer was hugely interesting and made viewers want to see OMG2,” he said. “It is a film meant for entire families to see. There are no two-piece bikini and kissing scenes. Pankaj Tripathi, seen in the distressed role of a common man appealing to God and the Court to have mercy on his somewhat wayward son, and Akshay Kumar in the awesome avatar of God himself, have put OMG2 right at the top of the audience’s expectation list.”

Goutam Hamdev on Instagram, took up the cry for justice by saying the trailer was promising and he was eagerly awaiting the release of OMG2. Hari Somaiya, a self-acclaimed big fan of South superstar Prabhas, said the story, screenplay and direction of OMG2 based on the trailer seemed to be super extraordinary. “Movie super hit hogi!” he predicted. Raja Babu, a diehard Akshay Kumar fan with the actor’s name in his Instagram handle, declared that there was nothing lacking in the OMG2 trailer. It was very good. And he had “big expectations from the film”. Akkiholic Jolly Vasu, another sworn Akshay Kumar fan, said the trailer was “jabardast and exceeds all expectations”.

Shiksha felt the OMG2 trailer “finished so soon” so she “watched it thrice”, adding, “Akshay Kumar made Lord Shiva come alive with his unbelievable and splendid performance.” Whereas AkholicMM just said, “Boss is back!” Bhushan Khiladi was more descriptive in his praise: “Looks, body language, screen presence, dialogue delivery… everything about Akshay Kumar Sir from the OMG2 promos and songs is divine.” He was looking forward to seeing the actor deliver yet another “extraordinary performance in a masterpiece film”. Soulful Bharti said the vibe in the trailer was “pure and pristine”. Abhishek Choudhary announced that this was Akshay Kumar’s “comeback film”. Axay Patel was grateful that the trailer didn’t show the best parts and he could look forward to enjoying the film in theatres. Akkiskira got “goosebumps” the way Akshay Kumar delivered dialogues. Tirlosheva found the trailer had “blockbuster detailing”. Rahul Akkian was pleased the trailer had everything to “attract audiences waiting for good content”. Kabir, a Salman Khan fan, said the trailer had pure vibe and was outstanding. “Akshay Kumar Sir back with a bang!” he predicted.

Sameer Prajapati wondered how, when the Censors Board passed a film like Adipurush with a U/A certificate, it wasn’t doing the same with OMG2. “Sex education is a must for everybody,” he added. Virrosh said “God is the essence of this film but we sidelined Him because we cannot see all these things on the screen.” Yosh Ucchil reminded Bollywood fans of the prequel. “Remember OMG? It was a cult classic and just as they never showed anything wrong in it, they will not show anything disrespectful in the sequel.” The media, too, was unrestricted in its praise of the OMG2 trailer. Among several others, India Today wrote, “With Akshay Kumar leading the charge, the upcoming film is poised to challenge societal norms while providing audiences with an enriching cinematic experience.” The Times of India said, “Akshay Kumar’s OMG2 trailer is epic and entertaining.” The trailer, which hinted at a compelling combination of comedy, spirituality and social criticism, was widely appreciated by Bollywood trade analysts as well. Veteran Girish Johar excitedly tweeted, “Now this is a winner!” Siddharth Kannan said the OMG2 trailer “hits the right buttons”. With so much praise and support building up for the film, Akshay Kumar fans are praying that Lord Shiva himself intervenes and makes the Censors Board see sense to review the film and pass it with a U/A certificate.
