Actor Shailesh Lodha who played the titular role of Taarak Mehta in the sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has victoriously won a lawsuit against the producer of his former show Asit Modi. As per a report, Asit Modi has been ordered to pay Rs 1.05 crore to Lodha. Lodha decided to quit the popular comedy show last year after a successful 14-year stint.
After quitting the show, Shailesh filed a lawsuit against Asit for failing to pay his dues and sought justice by approaching the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). After the producers neglected to clear the pending payments, the NCLT ruled in favor of Shailesh, leading to the settlement of the suit. Under section 9 of the insolvency and bankruptcy code, the matter was heard and was ‘settled between the parties as per the consent terms by the counsel for the parties. As a result, Asit Modi will now be required to pay the actor in settlement terms a sum of Rs 1,05,84,000 through a demand draft.
After the verdict, Shailesh said that although the substantial sum of money is significant, his fight was never about financial gain. It was about seeking justice and self-respect. He feels happy that he has won a battle and that the truth has prevailed. The TMKOC actor further expressed his refusal to concede with the alleged arm-twisting tactics employed by the producer, including signing papers with clauses that shrank his freedom to speak to the media.
