Anjali Anand is a reknowned name in the TV industry. Her shows like Dhai Kilo Prem and Kulfi Kumar Bajewala have been widely appreciated. But it's her film debut with Karan Johar's Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani that has put her in the spotlight for her role Golu aka Gayatri Randhawa, a girl who has been fat shamed all her life, with her attributes being sidelined.
"I knew that each character is gonna have their own unique story in the film but I was very curious to know about how they will accommodate everyone. In those 2:48 hours of RRKPK, the audience knows the story of each and every character. We usually wonder about what happened with supporting characters as not much is revealed about them, we only what happens with the male and female leads of the film. I think only Karan Johar can do this, people have actually forgotten how to do these kinds of films," Anjali expressed her joy.
"Karan has done that at the beginning and that's why films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai are still remembered. Even the little Sardar kid in it had just one dialogue "Tusi Jarahe, Tusi Na Jao" and it is still remembered. It is Karan Johar's film and every character is there for a reason and that's beautiful. When I read the script, I found it beautiful and decided that I want to play this part and start my film journey because I don't think it could get any better and for that, I know nobody is gonna launch me. I live in the real world and I thought If I have got this opportunity, why shouldn't I grab it?," Anjali added.
But has life changed after the film's success? Anjali explained, "My journey had lots of doubts. I feel proud of myself for once for not listening to anybody and doing what I wanted. I have never given up in life and post Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, I have seen changing colours of a lot of people who doubted my potential and didn't believe me. They have been coming up front and appreciating in a very beautiful way. A lot of new people are recognizing me. Many of them didn't know I existed because a lot of people who watch films, don't watch television. This has made me full of love and I hope it doesn't face away!"
Boasting of a stellar cast, Anjali elaborated on her experience of working with the stalwarts of the industry. "The first names that I heard were Ranveer and Alia and I was amazed that I am working with the two best actors of this generation. I was really looking forward to learning from them. In the beginning, I didn't know what all and how many scenes I have with them. Ranveer is the sweetest of all, he makes sure that you are fine and is genuinely concerned to know how you are if you're fine, while Alia is really brilliant at her work and is too sweet to be around. I think Alia is the easiest to do a scene with. Whenever Shabana ji used to be there, I would never leave the set. to see her perform live is just a treat. Dharam Ji used to tell us the stories of his times and he also used to recite poems and shayaris that he had written," shared an ecstatic Anjali before signing off.
