Prolific actor Ranganathan Madhavan, aka R Madhavan, whose film Rocketry: The Nambi Effect recently bagged the National Award in the Best Feature Film Category of 2021, has been nominated as the President of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and Chairman of the governing council by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on September 1, 2023.
Following the news, the minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur wished the actor on X with a heartfelt note.

The actor expressed his gratitude and said that he will try his best to live to up to the legacy left behind by the seniors.
He said," It is still to sink in. I am still gathering my thoughts and trying to understand the importance of it. There have been many highly distinguished Presidents of the FTII, and far more qualified than me, like the legacy Mr Roshan Taneja, Mr Shyam Benegal, Mr Mrinal Sen, Mr Adoor aGopalkrishnan and Mr Shekhar Kapur. I will try my best to live up to their legacy."
