The news around the sports film has been around since 2018, after Aamir Khan announced that he wants to make a film on the Spanish dramedy Campeones, titled as Champions. Since the announcement, the names of several actors kept on taking rounds but there was no confirmation. Rumour mill was abuzz that the Aamir's Dil Chahta Hai director-actor Farhan Akhtar had signed up for the film which was expected to go on floors in October this year. But as per recent developments, the name of the actor exiting the project has come up. 

As per latest reports, Farhan will no longer be a part of Aamir’s Champions as he is busy with the preparations for his upcoming directorial Don 3 which will star Ranveer Singh in the lead. One of the sources shared with an entertainment website, “Farhan Akhtar had said yes to the film, and was to lead the cast. Initially the film was to go on floors in October. But now, the same has been moved to January 2024. The team is still to cast a few more members. For this they require more time and hence decided on pushing the venture by three months.”

Directed by RS Prasanna along with Aamir Khan Productions, the film is expected to go on floors in 2024.
