Karan Johar recently celebrated 25 years as a filmmaker and made his comeback on celluloid after a haitus of 7 years with one of the most successful releases of 2023, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. The film turned out to be a box office success and received equal love from the critics.
Recently, KJo announced his upcoming film Kill which features debutante Lakshya, a non-star kid new comer and the actor- choreographer Raghav Juyal. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last week and amassed massive appreciation at the global platform.
In one of the interviews at TIFF, the filmmaker spoke about the wrong perception that people have against his films. KJo stated,"I have been trying to break this perception that Dharma Productions is burdened by because I still get asked 'Oh you only make family films' or 'you only make NRI-friendly films...or 'You make films about rich people'. It's really ridiculous that you get slotted. You are doomed by perception. If my name was Karan Kashyap, I would do so much better with a certain section of people. It's like I'm doomed by my own name."
The multi-faceted filmmaker/producer further added that people forget about his films like Lust Stories, Bombay Talkies, Raazi and Kapoor & Sons that are also produced by Dharma Productions!
The announcement of Karan’s Dharma Productions and Guneet’s Sikhya Entertainment was announced earlier this year. The two production houses collaborated again for Kill, after a decade, post their project Lunchbox which released back in 2013.
